GM Offers $5,000 Discount on Cadillac Escalade
Audi Announces New Naming System
GM announced a $5,000 discount on their Cadillac Escalade for any customer trading in a 1999 or newer Lincoln model. This "conquest" discount comes as Lincoln is about to launch their all new Navigator.
While the Escalade has been one of the top selling luxury SUVs on the market, Cadillac is concerned about what a completely redesigned Navigator will do to their sales.
VW Coming Out with All-Electric Retro Van
Audi will begin to roll out a new naming system for their powertrains. The two digit system will represent the car's horsepower or kilowatts. For example, an Audi vehicle that has between 110 to 131 horsepower will be named 30. Engines with 230 to 252 horsepower will be named 45. The highest number available is 70, which is for engines that produce over 544hp. So if you were looking at a 252hp A4, it would be called an 'A4 45,' instead of 'A4 2.0T.'
Rental Car Company Woes Point to Used Car Values Falling
VW announced they will build an all-electric ID Buzz van for the public starting in 2022. The ID Buzz draws much of its styling from the 1960's VW bus. The Buzz will be 194.5 inches long, which is shorter than the typical minivan and full size SUV.
EPA estimates 2018 Chevrolet Equinox diesel will get up to 39 mpg
Over the last year, many people have written about a possible "bubble" in used car prices. They pointed to increased incentives from new car manufacturers and an increase in supply from leased vehicles being returned.
We're starting to see the evidence of lowering used car values. The latest symptom is seen in rental car profit reports. Both Avis Budget Group Inc. and Hertz Global Holding Inc. reported bigger loses than expected, and both pointed to "higher fleet costs."
These "higher fleet costs" come from increased depreciation. Both rental car companies are being hit harder when they bring their vehicles to auctions.
Spyshots of the 2018 Nissan Altima
The EPA has given their official fuel economy ratings for the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox with a diesel engine. The front-wheel-drive version is rated at 28 mpg in the city, 39 mpg in the highway and 32 mpg overall. The all-wheel-drive version is rated at 28 mpg in the city, 38 mpg in the highway and 32 mpg overall.
Nissan has redesigned the Altima for 2018. Even though it is still heavily camouflaged, some of the new style cues can be seen. Most notably, there are less rounded surfaces and a more pronounced back side. In the interior, there is a large display screen and a significantly larger steering wheel.
